I am sick with a very bad cold and spent most of yesterday in bed watching TV. While channel surfing, I stopped momentarily on the TV Land station and watched about 5 minutes of the sitcom Hot In Cleveland starring Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli.
Within the 5 minutes I watched the show, Valerie Bertinelli was in bed with her boyfriend twice and one of the other women was in bed in another man. I guess Valerie Bertinelli having to fake an orgasm and the other woman having an affair with a married man is today's idea of humor. There was lots of canned laughter but I didn't laugh once because it wasn't funny. I can only come to the conclusion that this type of program is what the American people want to watch. It has to be that most people find it entertaining or humorous, or it would stay on TV very long. It is no wonder our country is so screwed up.
Kim and I sometimes feel as if we, as her dad puts it, "don't fit into the world" nowadays. Thank God. Now I know a lot of people who view this Youtube video may not think it is funny either. Kim and I think it is hilarious. The comedy of a generation ago was clean and funny. There were great comedians such as Don Rickles, Milton Burle, Johnny Carson, Jonathan Winters, Bob Hope and many others.
In this Youtube video, Foster Brooks portrays a drunk airline pilot. I suppose perhaps there are a lot of people who may think this is not "politically correct" or not think this is funny because sadly, in many cases, it isn't far from the truth. There are approx. 12 pilots are year who are arrested for being under the influence. Makes you think, doesn't it. Still, this is pretty funny. You might also notice that these shows were done in front of live audiences.
I agree with you about the sitcoms today, they are just examples of how little people think of themselves, reflecting no manners, rudeness, narcissism, disrespect for everybody, including Jesus. How embarrassing to have Jesus return and find us watching something like "Big Bang Theory", "Happily Married", etc.!! Input, Output is all I have to say. I am glad I am offended and pray for those that watch these programs. Very sad testimony of our society and what children are also watching. I choose to remember the days when the whole family could watch together instead of all sitting around watching "porn" scripts. Britt
